About N9C
Neighborhood Nine Coalition (N9C) is a grassroots organization built to inform residents on issues related to changes in city policies and procedures, proposed changes, and important events that potentially impact residents and businesses.
Neighborhood Nine is located in Cambridge, MA. Urban planners in the 1950’s set the boundaries of Neighborhood Nine (N9), which extends from the northern end of the Cambridge Common up to the railroad tracks that run diagonally from Porter Square to the back of Fresh Pond shopping center. To the east, N9 is bounded by Massachusetts Avenue and by Concord Avenue to the west. N9 covers a huge geographic area containing diverse neighborhoods, green spaces, and businesses.
All cities evolve and change; Cambridge is no exception. Today there are pressing needs related to affordability of housing, mitigating the impact of climate change, and regional transportation. All these are issues that extend well beyond our municipal boundaries.
N9C seeks to be a two-way conduit between the city and community regarding important issues and events especially those related to infrastructure or building projects, changes in city policy, other issues that potentially impact the quality of life, safety of residents and vitality of businesses within Neighborhood 9.
Specifically, our mission is:
To inform residents of changes and to serve as a venue for input on issues.
To provide residents’ views on matters that affect quality of life to city manager, city council and city departments.
To encourage engagement in civic life especially around issues that matter to residents’ quality of life.
To be seen by the city as a legitimate resident organization and to foster constructive engagement with city staff, city council members and various commissions whose decisions impact residents and businesses.
