1826 and 1840 Mass Ave
The nonprofit developer Just A Start has acquired the parking lots located at 1826 and 1840 Mass Ave near Porter Square. They plan to build multi-family affordable housing under the provisions of the Affordable Housing Overlay (AHO).
The AHO allows for up to 15 stories, with no setbacks on front and sides, and no requirements for parking. That has alarmed some local residents.
Just A Start Executive Director Carl Nagy-Koechlin and Director of Real Estate Noah Sawyer discussed the project with N9C at our meeting on March 12, 2025. Their plans, including the building design, height, setbacks, amenities, and parking, are still being defined as they build their project team and evaluate alternatives.
They are eager for community feedback and are interested in having additional meetings with N9C as the process continues. We had a great conversation in which attendees voiced concerns and questions.
